Ñompetition for research papers on the topic: "Current Issues and Prospects of Development of International and National Maritime Law"

Announcing a competition the UMBA aims to promote the advancement of maritime law and generate interest among higher education students in Ukraine and abroad. It also aims to cultivate intellectual potential among youth, support talented and creatively active higher education students, and encourage research work within higher education institutions.

Research papers in the form of scientific articles, individually written by the author, are accepted for the competition.

Based on the results of the competition, awards will be given for the top three places, the best papers will be published, and certificates will be issued to all participants.

To participate in the competition, papers should be submitted to the email address of the UMBA office@umba.org.ua by 1 November 2023, inclusive. The competition results will be announced on the website of the Ukrainian Maritime Bar Association by 30 November 2023.

Requirements for the competition paper:

     
  1. The competition paper should take the form of a scientific article and represent independent research on current issues of maritime law that have not been the subject of previous publications or participation in other competitions. If the paper is a thematic continuation of the author's previous research, it should contain no more than 25% of material from the author's previous works.
  2. The competition paper should be written in Ukrainian or English, not exceeding 6000 words, including footnotes but excluding content and index, and should include the author's full name.
  3. It is recommended to use formatting according to the OSCOLA standard (Oxford Standard for the Citation of Legal Authorities, available for download at www.law.ox.ac.uk/research-subject-groups/publications/oscola) or a similar standard, with page numbering, a title page, table of contents, and, where necessary, an index, and a list of references. 
  4. For participants from Ukraine, it is desirable to provide a list of used sources at the end of the paper, in the order of mention in the text, in accordance with the requirements set forth in DSTU 8302:2015 "Information and Documentation. Bibliographic Reference. General Principles and Rules of Compilation," as well as other standards typically required for scientific papers..
  5. By submitting a paper for the competition, the person agrees that the competition organizer (Ukrainian Maritime Bar Association) reserves the right to publish the competition paper on the UMBA’s website (www.umba.org.ua) and in other print and online publications, while respecting the copyright of the competition paper owner. The copyright for the submitted competition paper remains with the author of the paper.
