The Gathering of the Nippon Fellows from the Black & Caspian Seas Region

On 23-24 October 2017 “The Nippon Foundation Conference gathering Alumni from four different fellowship programs in the Black & Caspian Seas region» took place in Tbilisi, Georgia.

The gathering was co-organized by the Government of Georgia and the Nippon Foundation, Japan.

Dr. Yohei Sasakawa, the Chairman of The Nippon Foundation, graced the occasion by his attendance.

The main objective of Nippon fellows gathering in Tbilisi was to advance cooperation activities amongst the fellows in order to advance the experience sharing related activities, as long as most of the fellows held significant positions either in their Government or in private business. The core topic of the Conference was strengthening of understanding of rule of International Maritime Law and the Law of the Sea, within the context of sustainable development goals (SDG14).

The fellows from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Romania, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Ukraine took part in the meeting and presented their reports.

Ukraine was represented at the Conference by six participants, three of whom are members of the Ukrainian Maritime Bar Association.

The final stage of the meeting was the Declaration on Cooperation between the Fellows and the launch of the website BCNF Alumni.
