On March 22, 2017, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Law «On Accession of Ukraine to the International Convention on Salvage 1989», done at London on April 28, 1989.
According to the said law, Ukraine has made the following reservation:
“According to article 30 of the Convention, Ukraine reserves the right not to apply the provisions of the Convention:
a) when the salvage operation takes place in inland waters and all vessels involved are of inland navigation;
b) when the salvage operations take place in inland waters and no vessel is involved;
c) when all interested parties are nationals of that State;
d) hen the property involved is maritime cultural property of prehistoric, archaeological or historic interest and is situated on the sea-bed”.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in its letter dated July 26, 2017 under ¹ 72/14-612/1-1776, notes that the International Salvation Convention enters into force for Ukraine on June 15, 2018.
